Toronto police say a driver is facing charges after a fuel hose still attached to his vehicle was ripped from a gas station pump, striking and severely injuring a man in his 60s.
Police allege the 26-year-old accused drove away from the pump with the gas nozzle still attached to his Mercedes-Benz on Monday evening.
They say the hose separated from the gas pump and struck a 63-year-old man who was leaving the gas station kiosk in the city’s west end.
That man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say the driver of the Mercedes returned to the scene and was arrested.
He has been charged with careless driving and dangerous operation causing bodily harm, with a court appearance scheduled in early June.
